Our History

EDRC was the first center in the country to develop a specialized treatment program for bulimia. Since 1980 when we opened our doors, we have worked to develop a therapeutic approach that addresses both the problematic eating behaviors and the inner world that is often hidden behind disordered eating. We now offer individualized and professional care for all kinds of problematic eating behaviors, including anorexia, binge eating, food obsessions, and body image concerns. As one of the pioneering organizations in the field of eating disorders, we have used our experience and knowledge to provide a psychotherapy program and referral service in Manhattan which offers the most up-to-date and effective treatment available for eating disorders.

The Eating Disorder Resource Center is known for consistently providing responsible, caring and individualized treatment. We are known especially for integrating a psychological understanding of the disordered eating with direct intervention with the food or weight related behaviors. We understand how challenging these disorders can be and we want to know what has or hasn't worked for you in the past. From there, we will work with you to explore what will be most helpful for you now. We are interested in understanding who you are and why you have developed the problems with eating. But we are just as interested in immediately finding direct and focused ways to change the food, weight and body issues that trouble you now.
